Q: What is the commission process for your Pet Scenes?
A: Please see Part 1: The Commission Process
Q: Can I have an insight into how you create the Pet Scenes?
A: Of course. Please see Part 2: The Drawing Process.
Q: How many photos should I send you?
Unlike with classic portrait art, I use multiple photographs. Therefore, the more the merrier! I have often had clients apologise for sending me “too many”, but honestly, there’s no such thing as far as I’m concerned! The more photos that I see of your pet, the better idea I will have of what they look like if I end up drawing them in a position that I don’t have a photo for.
Q: How much should I write in the personality form?
As with the photos, the more information that you can give me, the better the result. I try and include as much of the information from your form as possible, to get a full expression of your pet’s character.
Q: How long does a pet portrait scene take to draw?
This varies greatly depending on two main factors:
• How many pets are in the scene
• How complex the scene is
The average time that it takes for a single dog scene is about a week.
Q: Do you draw cats?
Yep, I have drawn many cats over the years. All pets are welcome! It is the same cost for any pet.
Q: What if I have an unusual breed of dog?
Then I will be especially excited to draw them!
Q: What media do you use?
I work by hand, digitally, on my laptop with my Intuos Pro tablet and stylus. I use Photoshop to draw your cartoon. This is all done from scratch by hand, with no manipulation of photographs involved.
Q: Can I request a specific scene?
That’s no problem. If I feel that a different scene may work better from your Pet Personality Form responses, I may discuss this with you but I am happy to do any scene that you wish. If it involves a particular building or complex prop, please note that there may be an extra charge, but I will discuss this with you before we begin.
Q: What if my pet has passed away?
I offer a specific, more sensitive cartoon service for rainbow bridge pets. These are set in a rainbow bridge scene. However, if you prefer to have them as they were before they left, please let me know that you would like a standard pet portrait scene but with a rainbow bridge pet. I will send a form that with more sensitive wording.
Q: What is the process if I would like the cartoon as a gift for someone else?
If you would like a cartoon for someone whose pet that you know very well, then there is no problem in following the process and answering the questions for them, so that it can be a complete surprise.
If you don’t know enough about the recipient’s pet, I can make a voucher for you for no extra cost, so that you can gift them the voucher for the upcoming event, and they can send me the information themselves. You can either book a slot at the time of purchasing the voucher, and I will put the booking details onto the voucher, or you can let the recipient book a time that's convenient for them.
Q: Who owns the copyright to the cartoon?
As the artist, I own the copyright. However, included in the cost of your cartoon is the usage right to reproduce your cartoon so long as it’s for your own personal use and not to make profit from it. For example, you can have it printed onto a T Shirt or a mug for yourself or as a gift to a friend or family member.
Q: Is the deposit refundable?
As the deposit is to secure the booking and I often do initial sketches and planning of your cartoon before the start date, I regrettably am unable to refund your deposit. However, I am aware that sometimes circumstances are beyond our control, so I am always open to postponing a booking instead if the need arises. If I am the one to cancel a booking, I will of course refund your deposit.
Q: Which delivery service do you use?
If the weight is under 2kg, and provided there are no strikes occurring, I am most likely to use Royal Mail. For parcels over 2kg I use various delivery services, but I never use Evri. If you have a preference of delivery service, please let me know in advance of your start date and I will do my best to accommodate this.
Q: Can I request changes to the finished cartoon?
I can make some minor amendments to the cartoon if you’re not completely satisfied, although major changes may incur an additional fee. To date, (and touch wood!) I have never had a dissatisfied pet portrait scene client.
