So many of us have experienced moments with their dog where they almost have an accident, and we thank our lucky stars that we got away with it. Jo Sellers, founder of Pippin Pets dog training, didn’t get so lucky with her dog Reba.
Reba went out into the garden one night for a wee, like she had done every night for years, but this time Jo heard a yelp. She went out and discovered that Reba had run into the tree and had instantly broken her neck. Reba had been in the garden with that tree endless times before and no incidents at all. Jo can only assume that Reba chased something. It’s definitely the stuff of nightmares. Thankfully Jo is specially trained in first aid, and gave Reba the best possible start to her recovery that she could have.
Jo rushed Reba to the out of hours vet and was sent to a specialist referral centre where Reba underwent the intricate task of her surgery.
Reba is thankfully back home with Jo now, but faces a very long road of recovery ahead. Jo is doing everything that she possibly can to aid Reba’s recovery, and has a rehabilitation route of acupuncture, hydrotherapy, massage, and other holistic treatments planned to try and give her the best possible chance.
Reba’s recent visit to the vets brought good news: although she still can’t stand unaided, the vets anticipate that she will get full feeling back in ALL four of her paws, which Jo was over the moon to hear. As a dog trainer who previously did in-person training as well as online, she has now dropped the in-person training for the foreseeable future to stay with Reba, and is offering online training only.
As well as her inevitable drop of income from that, her costs for Reba’s recovery are huge. Her insurance only covers a third of the £17k vet bill, despite her not having the lowest range of insurance. In addition, the hydrotherapy and holistic treatments will rack up a further bill. A mutual friend, Zoe, has set up a Go Fund Me page to help.
If you are able to spare anything to help Jo and Reba, they would be so grateful. You can read more about her story and/or donate here:
